Community Projects

In 2000, "Berkut", a children and youth organisation, was set up in Khuzir. The aim of this initiative is to create a variety of leisure activities for children and youth, as well as to encourage and stimulate their desire to learn, and make opportunities for people of similar ages from different areas to get to know each other.

Our activities fall into the following sub-headings:

Ecology

Protect our forests
Projects so far include:

  • frequently picking up rubbish on the Baikal shoreline
  • clearing unofficial rubbish dumps in the village
  • single action for clearing up the central rubbish dump
  • collecting plastic for recycling in Irkutsk
  • painting and putting up posters to discourage littering

Tourism

Every year we go hiking around the region. Sometimes we go on day-trips, other times on longer trips.

Shows and Performances

It has become a good tradition now to put on a show based on a traditional or folkloric tale. There have so far been two shows based on Buryat legends and at the moment we are rehearsing a play based on Russian traditions and legends. Abroad we have performed in Poland, Germany and France, and in Russia, in Moscow, Khuzhir and the Tunkinskaya valley.

Learning languages and cultural studies

We want to be able to understand our visitors from other countries, so we are always studying foreign languages.
