How to get here

NB If you are travelling by land between 18th May and 19th December you have to cross Baikal by ferry, arriving on the island 35km from Khuzhir. The exact dates for when the ferry is running depend on the weather.

Summer

We advise you to come to Olkhon by bus or on the "Komet" speed boat. If you come in your own transport in July-August there is a strong chance you will have to wait in line for the ferry. The ferry is free of charge.

By land (bus/microbus/car)

From the bus station ('avto-vokzal') in Irkutsk from 18th May a bus leaves for Khuzhir on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8-10AM. The journey takes around 8 hours. From around 1st June the bus leaves every day, and depending on the number of tourists there may be a second bus leaving at 10:00AM. Please check these bus times with us by email!

In July-August every hour between 8AM and 11AM, and in other months only at 10AM, there are also microbuses leaving from the bus station. They take about 6 or 7 hours to get here. There is a daily microbus leaving at 10AM from the central bus station. Unfortunately you can only book tickets on microbuses for the return journey to Irkutsk.

The price of a bus ticket in 2008 (including booking and ticket delivery) is 600 rubles.

We can also arrange the following from Irkutsk:
1. A car for up to 4 people (journey takes about 5 or 6 hours).
2. A microbus for groups (journey takes about 5 or hours).

Timetable for the "Komet"
on the route Irkutsk – Port Baikal – Olkhon (Zagli bay) – Nizhneangarsk,

The Komet makes the journey from Irkutsk to Olkhon to Nizhneangarsk on Tuesdays and Fridays, and comes back again from Nizhneangarsk on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The cost of a ticket from Irkutsk to Olkhon (including booking and ticket delivery) is 1500 rubles. It is also possible to hire a boat in Irkutsk at varying prices. The journey takes around 14 hours from Listvyanka. (The journey from Irkutsk to Listvyanka takes around 5 hours by boat, or an hour by bus or microbus).
